Relief Printing

Relief Printing
This workshop enabled me to know more about relief printmaking, as well as learn a new way to present designs. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this, as I was able to develop an idea into a physical state and was able to experience the whole process. These are some of the prints I created in the workshop. Enjoy!
(The design I used is not created by me, it was from the Design Museum)
Image > Transfer onto tracing paper > Place paper onto printing plate (so that pencil side is facing down), outline the image once again so you are able to see the design.
Using traditional Japanese craving equipment to get precise outlines.
Here, I have not carved enough on the bigger surfaces, therefore creating that effect on the bulbs. However, it looks quite exciting as it reminds me of the electrical currents running through the inside.
My final printed version of the design. Although, I was limited to only applying three colours, I think it was better having done this, as it could have been too distracting if I had more colours.
This is my favourite of all the pieces created. Contrasting the printed design onto a busy background, allows it to balance out the detailed elements, whilst still being able to maintain the bold, strong image.

This was printed onto a advertisement on a newspaper. I purposely chose this, as I enjoy the colourful horizontal lines working with the flat print.
Experimenting with collage. Attaching coloured tissue paper onto the carved surfaces, enables you to notice the colour variation through out the whole design.
